This morning saw the first frost of the season with hoar frost growing perpendicular to the blades of grass. It was -0.8°C (30.6°F) at 6:32 am with us.
[Trivia: The adjective “hoar” comes from old English meaning “greyish white; grey or grey-haired with age”].
The dogs and I saw white for much of our morning walk this morning. A cold, crunchy -5°C (23°F) frost welcomed us to the day.
We’ve only had a couple of sub-zero (0C, 32F) mornings so far, but this morning saw the first of the season’s chills with decent ice crystal growth on the fence posts.
