Outback 2012: Farina: Transcontinental Hotel

Farina, South Australia, was somebody’s dream. They thought they could grow wheat in that desert region. Their problem was that they thought that the good few years of rain were the norm. How wrong they were.

The town which grew up in the late nineteenth century failed to thrive. It hung on for decades, but finally died.

It lay adjacent to the old Ghan Railway; hotels were built to accommodate travellers, and entertain the residents.

This is the shell of the Transcontinental Hotel.
