We’ve had 64 mm (2.5 inches) rain in the past week and, while not a mammoth amount, it’s enough to soften the topsoil enough such that it doesn’t take much for shallow rooted trees to lose their grip.
The ground is rocky, and the eucalypts tend to not have large tap roots. Their surface root system isn’t enough to keep them upright if the roots don’t extend sufficiently horizontally.
