Outback 2013: Strangways

The route of the old Overland Telegraph can be picked up here and there along the Oodnadatta Track. Here, at Strangways, lie the ruins of the old pastoral settlement which then became an Overland Telegraph repeater station. It sits near the Old Ghan Railway Line.

The building to the right of centre was the 10,000 gallon buttressed water tank. It must have been quite a chore to fill it (this site sits on a rise adjacent to now extinct mound springs).

You’ve inspired me. I have started planning our trip for next year … am thinking of heading up to Mt Isa then cutting across to the NT to pick up Uluru the down through this part of the world in SA.
