Styx River: Bushfire hazard reduction

Having slogged back up out of the gorge and the Styx River we returned to the vehicle – to find that a fire, which had been lit to reduce the risk of a larger, more serious fire in the coming summer season, was upon us.

This fire, though, being lit at the tail end of winter, was slow moving due to the cold and damp.

We were in no danger, and so I took the opportunity to take some photographs.

This view illustrates the fire front – a distinct line between that fuel which has burnt, and that which has yet to burn.
