Sydney: Sun Princess SeaTel

Exploring further with the zoom lens (still on the compact camera), I was interested to discover that the text on these domes said “Seatel”. The ship has (at least) three of these domes. According to their web site, Seatel antennas like these provide ‘phone, television and internet connectivity while at sea. All the mod cons.

A cruise for people who can’t go anywhere without their iPhone. The technology is quite impressive, inside the dome is a dish antenna and control system that keeps it locked onto a satellite in all weather conditions.

I’ve not been on a cruise ship – it’s not the sort of thing that appeals to me. Then there’s the fact that I’m susceptible to seasickness, big time. But if I were to want to take a trip on such a cruise, I’m pretty sure I’d want to experience something different from the daily norm and that would mean getting away from radio, TV, the net, and the telephone for the duration.
