Icy dam

I don’t think it’s really obvious as to what I’m trying to illustrate here, but the dam to the north of our house was still frozen at 10 am a few weeks ago. The ice is sitting on the surface with the sun glinting on it (although it could be mistaken for the wind generating ripples on the surface).

Gee, Gordon, that’s quite interesting. I’ve certainly seen puddles and buckets ice over in Armidale and Canberra but never a significant bit of water like a dam.

Interestingly, last year in August only a small part of Guthega Dam in the Snowy Mountains was frozen over, although I noted this year it was nearly all iced over some weeks ago, but had melted back last weekend when I was there.
