Woodsreef asbestos mine

Woodsreef asbestos mine

Today we headed west. Bundarra, Barraba, and Mt Kaputar National Park.

The first stop was at the abandoned Woodsreef Asbestos Mine which sits between Bundarra and Barraba. I had heard of Woodsreef and the asbestos mine, but to be honest, I didn’t realise that it was relatively close to home. The next surprise was the size of the building. We speculated that it must be the largest building north of Newcastle.

Great photo of the mine, that is amazing the zie of that old building. I think the NSW should fix this before mining the countryside. It would be of concern how far the particles are dispersed in strong western winds.

I did read somewhere, there is a rare bat colony there in the buildings.
