Walking today on the Lyrebird Track in New England National Park was quite different from previous week’s walks. For a start there was heavy mist which cut down the amount of light reaching the rain-forest understorey. A side effect of the mist was to deepen the colour of the already rich greens present everywhere; the soaking moisture released the earthy aromas associated with such places; the leaf litter glistened with water.

This image illustrates the view from within the rain-forest – under the canopy.
