Newton Boyd war memorial

The memorial to those from the Newton Boyd area, east of Glen Innes, who served or lost their lives in the Great War. It is, perhaps, a reflection of the loss of population in the rural areas that the memorial does not add names from the Second World War – we assume that by that time this rural hamlet had lost all, or the majority, of its population.

We have just driven the old Grafton to Glen Innes Road partly with the intention of visiting this monument. We are pleased to say that it seems to have been restored and is in much better condition than shown in your photograph. It is a sad reminder of the great price simple people pay for others follies.
